We need the following information so that we can serve you better and in order for you to receive your personalized to-do list after completing this checklist.
If you’re planning to stay in the Netherlands longer than four months, you will need to have a home address or place of residence. This can be a rental or owned house or apartment. You can also share it with roommates/housemates. In that case you would need authorization from the main resident.
You have to be registered with the municipality where you live in order to get a BSN number. You will need that number for transactions such as opening a bank account.
You need a DigiD, which is a digital ID to safely communicate with Dutch government, insurance and health insurance agencies.
You will need a Dutch bank account to receive your salary and pay your bills.
If you’re coming to live or work in the Netherlands, you are required to insure yourself with a Dutch health insurer.
Liability insurance gives you coverage if you cause damage to property of others or cause injury to another person.
When you move into a new home (rental or owned) you will usually already have a working electricity and/or gas connection, as well as running water. Still, you are required to sign a contract for these utilities.
Whether you are renting or buying in the Netherlands, you will probably have to get your own internet and/or TV plan.
Even if your international mobile phone (with a plan) works just fine when you arrive, we strongly recommend getting a Sim Only plan.
You cannot register with a municipality without a permanent residence or place of residence.
